Description:

These aphids are bright green when they're young, and seem to get darker as they get older. They were feeding on aspen leaves, watched over by small black ants.

It's a great interest for me too - I'm still reasonably new to the US & there are just so many critters I am unfamiliar with & this is the perfect way for me to learn about & appreciate all the wonderful wildlife big & small around here! I've always loved bugs & spiders but have had a bit of a phobia about flies & this has also provided a pretty much overnight cure for that too!
I've had an outlet for weird bug and creatures for a while - a photo blog - but Project Noah has given me a new sense of focus. My main interest has generally been photography, and I've learned about the animals as an afterthought. Now I'm paying much more attention, and learning a lot! :)
Me too! Sounds like a good time to buy Nikon stock! :)
I agree Karen. I have been taking pics of odd things for years, but never had an outlet like this. So my drive to take those photos waned. Now that I have a group to share them with, my drive is back, and I am back to noticing the things that people normally never see. I am going to end up needing a few new lenses soon as well, so I can start getting those super close almost micro macro shots! :-D
Isn't it cool how project noah has us looking at things in a totally different way. Before I would have seen aphids, stink bugs etc & thought 'oh no' (or some more colorful expletive!) - now I am extatic & run for my camera! :)
I wonder what they would look like if you hit them with a blacklight. ;-) Excellent detail!!!!
Thanks Misako! For some reason (maybe the color?) I thought these aphids were really pretty.
