Description:

Spotted this yucca hiking near Big Sur, CA. Yucca whipplei, a monocot, is a shrub that is native to California and is found only slightly beyond California borders. The "yucca flower" is the state flower of New Mexico.

Habitat:

Open field near Big Sur, CA.

Notes:

The white Yucca flower is crunchy with a mildly sweet taste (a hint of artichoke). in the spring, they can be used in salads and as a garnish.
