Foothill Yellow-Legged Frog
Rana boyli
43.119, -124.408
Field Notes
Habitat:
While most true frogs live in ponds, or at least lay their eggs in still water, the Foothill Yellow-legged Frog lives in streams or rivers. The tadpoles (which we also observed - though only a few) forage by scraping algae and diatoms off rocks. The adults have grainy skin and a vague, mottled color pattern, both of which are excellent camouflage amongst the rocks.
