Field Notes

Description:

Small gull with black wings tips, yellow eye, yellow legs, fine pointed beak.

Notes:

I watched this flock of Mew gulls preening for a long time. The ducks in this shallow bay were preening constantly too. Not sure why or what made this such a great preening place....but interesting to watch and think about!

Thanks, but these are all Mew Gulls in the photos. There are no Common Gulls in this area. Would love to see some!
It looks like the one landing is a 1st Winter Mew, the dark eyes, black tipped bill and flesh/whitish legs. The 4th pick doesn't show the bill tips but probably Mew's in various phases ~ but it's possible you might have Common Gulls in the 4th pic Love shore birds, Thank you,
