Field Notes

Description:

A leech.

Habitat:

Spotted in a wet , damp thick forest area, in Nepal.
7500 ft height.
Normally found in a wet tropical forest area as well.

Notes:

An inch in size. Strangely found sitting on a leaf. Normally remains grounded and waits for any hot blood species including human. Stealthily climbs on to the foot / leg and starts sucking the blood with out any signal. only after a while it starts etching then only one notices it. One has to really pull it off. Normally has black brown colour. This one has a saffron colour. In Villages I have seen people (In India) apply common calcium to get rid off it from the body.

Nice find MahabaleshwaraB! The leeches I usually find are in water.
