Blue-faced Meadowhawk dragonfly (male)
Sympetrum ambiguum
38.7577, -77.0984
Field Notes
Description:
Most male Blue-faced Meadowhawk dragonflies have pale red terminal appendages. Not this guy! I spent several weeks during September and October 2013 searching for Blue-Faced Meadowhawks at Huntley Meadows Park. The preceding male is the only one I spotted with black appendages. I guess he felt like letting his freak flag fly!
Habitat:
Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/
