Field Notes

Description:

Male carpenter bee hiding in his nest hole. When I got close he would back in further and try to turn around, which is why he's upside down in a couple of the photos. The yellow clypeus (front of face) is exclusive to males in this species.

Habitat:

Nest hole in a wooden plank on a trash bin in a city park. I have seen carpenter bees around this area frequently.

Notes:

My previous spotting of a male carpenter bee is here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7297115.

Thanks for posting that link, Juan. It really is interesting to see the differences in members of the same genus.
