Description:

These were all over the sand, I am wondering if they are Jelly fish? I did not see them last year after the Gulf oil spill,

Habitat:

Gulf of Mexico

Notes:

It was low tide and there were many tidal pools.

Thank You for the ID, KristenGilpin!! I put another photo in of the Jelly fish, I am holding it and it had a thin tail, similar to a root? These Jelly fish have puzzled me for years, when I did not see them last year, I wondered about them, but they are back. Auntnance, I have never seen them in the river areas,If it is a egg mass I wonder of what? I also saw a very odd thing at this location, a sea snake yesterday in the gulf but the photo is very blurry, I may put it on for the heck of it! Nature is full of surprises!

Notice in your fourth photo that this mass appears to be attached to the sand n that hole to the left. And in the upper right is a tiny drill. I have seen the same or similar jelly here in the river with drills on them and the drills siphons inserted in the mass. I suspect that it may be an egg mass of some sort.

A new one for me. I have never seen this, but I am not at the Beach that much. Almost like a footprint for Jellyfish

Mesoglea is the inside gel-like portion of a jelly. Once a jelly dies it get pounded by the surf which can remove tentacles and other external features leaving just the inside. Mesoglea can wash up onshore. More pics here: http://www.beachhunter.net/thingstoknow/jellyfish/jellyfish_florida_p2.hto
