Field Notes

Description:

The Pacific Gull is a very large gull, native to the coasts of Australia. It is moderately common between Carnarvon in the west, and Sydney in the east, although it has become scarce in some parts of the south-east, as a result of competition from the Kelp Gull, which has "self-introduced" since the 1940s.

Habitat:

Pacific coast of Oregon

Notes:

On a crabbing trip last month, the gulls were relentless and babysat the dock and our crab pots every second looking for scraps. When we were done for the day, they got the leftovers!

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

Looking at the correct ID... it seems what I thought were 2 different types of gull are actually the same. Just different stages in development!
