I saw this from shore. I see these birds almost every time I go down to the beach. sometimes 2 or 3 at a time.
The Murrelet is a much better fit! Due to conservation status, please do not pinpoint exactly where it was. Thanks!
Were you offshore? Murrelets are more pelagic birds.
This appear to be along the size of a duck. Please let me know if my size estimation is off. The closest match that I have found is Barrow's Goldeneye Bucephala islandica http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/401/_/Barrows_Goldeneye.aspx
