This beetle was described by Rev Thomas Blackburn in 1899 and given its common name by him.

Thanks Mark. This one is my favourite. It appears to be freshly emerged. I think the red appears in the overwintering generation for this bivoltine species.

Thanks Sergio and maplemoth. This species is similar to one on the mainland and will be synonymised. This will reduce the global diversity tally by one insect.
