Field Notes

Description:

A domestic cat gone wild(ish). I see this cat quite often in the neighboring patch of forest. It is very skittish with humans compared to other outdoor cats in the neighborhood. (Perhaps 6 months after this spotting, the cat was not seen anymore).

Habitat:

Observed in a disturbed patch of remnant forest on the periphery of my large semi-urban yard and garden.

Notes:

We heard our dogs going crazy when we let them out of the house for a break. I was hoping it was a snake. But this is what I got. I imagine it keeps the birds away (but not the rats!).

Well, besides having complicated landowner and other social issues related to this forest patch next door, no I probably can't capture it. But anyway, nearly one-year later, I haven't seen this individual for a while. Here where I live, free ranging dogs don't last a day because SOME people kill them to sell to dog-serving restaurants or they'll eat them themselves. However cats seem to get a break. They are everywhere but usually hang out at least sometimes with people. They also decimate wildlife. But the one in this spotting seemed wild because it was freaked out by humans. That's why I included in my spottings. But as I said I haven't seen it for quite some time.
Hi! If possible, can you trap, neuter, release this cat and visit: http://www.feralcat.com/michelle.html? If you neuter feral cats, it decreases the amount of feral cats and increases the amount of small animals that they eat. Thanks!
