Field Notes

Description:

The spotted moray has a long snake-like body, white or pale yellow in color with small overlapping dark-brown spots. Typical length is around 60 centimeters.

Habitat:

Spotted morays are solitary animals, and are usually seen in holes, with only the head protruding. They are active during the day, feeding at the sea bottom on crustaceans and other fish.
The spotted moray is found in the Western Atlantic Ocean from North Carolina and Bermuda to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Thanks, Gerardo! I was back in Mexico this September but unfortunately my camera flooded at the second dive and this time I could not bring nice pics. Although I went to see the whale sharks in Holbox instead, and that was very nice. I hope I can contribute with more pics from future trips. I have to search from my Cozumel trip to see if there are more pics that are mine and that I can post here :-)
