I think you've captured a great photo here! I love the fact that we can see the texture on the critter's shell. If I'm right, this is Murgantia histrionica - a species of harlequin bug. (try googling "Murgantia histrionica", it looks very similar!).
This is a coleoptera (a beetle) in the family Pentatomidae. All beetles that have this structure (5 pointed back) are in this family. So without knowing genus or species you can off the bat say pentatomidae easily identifying it. Great shot!
