Field Notes

Description:

Toad eggs

Habitat:

Small rainwater pool on granite hillside, with mosses and grasses growing around it. At least 5 toads (or frogs) were calling from the pool, with a strange sheep-like "baaaaa.". Also found frog eggs in the same place.

Comments (2)

Either fowler's toad or American toad eggs, not sure you can tell which one from the photos. Always a good idea to leave the eggs alone and in the water though.
Frogs with the 'baaaa' call are Eastern Narrowmouth Toads (Gastrophryne carolinensis) but the eggs don't appear to be theirs (http://dusttracks.com/2014/06/28/gastrophryne-carolinensis-the-eastern-narrow-mouthed-toad-in-lake-county-florida-27-june-2014/)
