Habitat:

This resplendently beautiful bird lives in the mountains of Central America, but unfortunately its numbers are declining and its Protection Status is threatened (per National Geographic link below).

Notes:

I took this photo by putting my point-n-shoot camera up against the lens of a very large, tripod mounted telescope while hiking in Costa Rica's cloud forest.

I've been to Guatemala a couple of times but was more into orchids at the time...must go again!
Thanks Alice! Ceherzog: then you should take a vacation to Costa Rica's Cloud Forest or Guatemala! It was quite the kick to get to see one on our last day in the forest! We saw a female, too, but couldn't get a picture of her.
Very nicely done anc certainly not invasive to the bird.!
It's my dream to see one of these.
