Field Notes

Description:

Parnassia palustris, commonly called Marsh Grass-of-Parnassus, Northern Grass-of-Parnassus, and Bog-star, is a species of the genus Parnassia.
The name comes from ancient Greece: evidently the cattle on Mount Parnassus appreciated the plant; hence it was an "honorary grass".

Notes:

Found this flower on a mountainside at Raurisertal in Austria.

Thank you! Yeah, I can see it ^ ^ Your pics of the flower are lovely!
Nice spotting Lizzy! See the single heart-shaped leaf at the bottom of the plant. Here's my spotting of the same flower in nearby Switzerland: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6909920
