Description:

Adonidia merrillii (Veitchia merrillii) is the sole species of the monotypic genus. It is native to the Philippines but seen as an ornamental throughout the tropics. It is sometimes referred to as the "Christmas Palm" because its fruits tend to be bright scarlet during the northern winter.

Habitat:

Spotted in an urban environment.

I haven't heard of that. According to http://www.quisqualis.com/tv01ediblepalms.html it is chewed as a stimulant. "Seeds sometimes used as substitute for betelnut" (i.e. Areca catechu).
