Thanks Michele! I'm pretty sure having trawled through pages of ladybugs on bugguide that this is just a variant of the common seven-spotted variety Coccinella septempunctata. The pronotum matches & some of the photos on bugguide have irregular spots. I was hoping I had found a more unusual one!
Thanks Michele - I'm not sure though as it's pronotum lacks the fine raised margin along the basal edge that the link you sent refers to. I find these little guys very tricky to ID!
