No worries Ashish :-) I think the reason may be to help differentiate it from the equally common (in India) Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus)...
Hmmm... Daniele just want to tell you...while doing a nature trail along with my one friend educated in Jim Corbett... asked me stop call it Common Tiger. There must be some reason. I find there is nothing wrong in your suggestion. I like to follow my fellow Biologists from India.
Thanks for the precision Ashish. In Australia, where I used to live and where I first saw this butterfly, it is commonly called the Orange Tiger.

Wiki says but my all Biologists friends told me they stopped to call it calling Common. Its Striped Tiger. I have Isaac Kehimkar's book in my hands... published by BNHS.
thanks DanielePralong and AshishNimkar.............
Common Tiger and Striped Tiger are both accepted common names Ashish. See Wiki link.
Daniele we called it Stripped Tiger.
