Field Notes

Description:

This skipper is mostly white with brown markings on the upper side of the wings. Females like this one have wider brown markings than males and grey wing bases. The wingspan is 35–42 mm.

Habitat:

Spotted at the National Butterfly Center.

Notes:

The larvae feed on the leaves of various mallows, including Sphaeralcea, Sida and Abutilon species. They live in a nest of folded leaves.
