Asian rice
Oryza sativa
-8.43381, 115.279
Field Notes
Description:
"Oryza sativa provides twenty percent of global grain and is a food crop of major global importance. Rice terraces are synonymous with Bali and a dominant part of the scenery. Rice farming in Bali dates back to Neolithic times. Bali’s steep mountains and deep gorges make wet rice farming difficult, so the Balinese have developed an intricate system of terraced rice fields, governed by a water sharing community."
Habitat:
This spotting of Asian rice occurs on 9th century terraced rice paddies.
Notes:
Located along the 7 km stretch of road leading northwards from Ubud to Pujung, just north of Tegalalang (http://www.baliblog.com/places-to-go/best-places-to-view-rice-terraces-…). Coordinate position is approximate.
