Description:

A bulb shaped flower with upward, kite shaped sprouting leaves (petals?) alternating between the colors purple green, and are secured tight to the body of the flower. About 6in. tall.

Habitat:

Typical Mid-New England Habitat. Temperate. Found in back yard.

Notes:

This almost reminds me of a brussel sprout!

This is a Rhododendron, the same as in the link I'd wager but not sure if it's a species, cultivar or hybrid. The pale green things are bracts, which have been protecting the flower buds as they mature. The flowers in your shot have yet to open.
