Granted the orientation of the photo could be such that I am looking at it wrong, however the way the moss is growing on the log, looks as if it's dead-fall laying on the forest floor.

I don't think it's Pleurotus, due to the stem. Pleurotus ostreatus generally grow perpendicularly to the ground in almost all cases. Coloration and the pattern of growth along with gills looks very similar to Cantharellus ignicolor.

Some friends say it is difficult to ID from just one photo, but it could be what Shannon suggested Oyster (Pleurotis) or Angel wing (Pleurocybella)

Split gill is stalkless. The mushroom pictured has a stalk with decurrent gills. Looks like an older specimen of oyster mushroom to me.

Possibly the Split Gill Fungus, although I cannot conclude that without other views of the fungus.
