I just spotted similar one, I suppose these are common in Tucson Arizona.
This appears to be a Western Horse Lubber, and I found one in Arizona also: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7227944 And here's some more background on this creature: http://fireflyforest.net/firefly/2007/11/02/horse-lubber-grasshoppers/ Great find, it's such a beautiful insect. :)
