Field Notes

Description:

Yellow, female hoverfly with brown/red markings and red eyes. The main feature that would determine if this is A. exotica or A. obliqua would be if there is a black stripe between the eyes.

Habitat:

The first image is on a shaded rose leaf. The remaining are on a Lantana bush.

Notes:

The video shows its flexing abdomen while it walks around drinking water drops off of the rose and leaf.
