Field Notes

Description:

Yellow and black stripes run the length of the body over the top and sides. The belly is often tan. The tail, from hip joint, can carry strips from the body but the will break into dashes and blend into the tail.

Habitat:

New Mexico, all desert ranges

Notes:

I have observed some with a blue color on their tail like a lighter version of the blue tail skink (also spotted in this area) as a adaptation for escaping predators.
