Description:

A medium-size brown butterfly with bold eyespots on the upper surfaces of its wings, feeding on Marigold flowers (Tagetes sp.). Photo 1 and 3 were cropped to highlight the butterfly; Photo 2 and 4 are the original photographs. Thanks for your advice, Dan and Alice!
They are definetly Marigolds, and Dan is correct. The sun always gives us trouble when we want a picture on a hot day. I have learned sometimes to stand so that my body throws a shadow on my subject.
I think the flowers are Marigolds. Tagetes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagetes
