Description:
It measures 44 cms. It is an easy bird to recognize because of its particular characteristics. It has a black head, neck and nape, with a brown back and all its white underparts, which contrast with its strong and big red beak. His eye is yellow with a red eye ring. Its legs are short and strong with a pale pink color.
Habitat:
It occupies a variety of coastal habitats, but is mainly associated with sandy and rocky places.
Notes:
For the strength of its beak, this bird is one of the few that specializes in bivalves, I eat oysters, mussels, snails, clams, limpets and crabs. For the southern region of the American continent, the breeding season goes from October to December, during which time the species behaves like monogamous.
