Description:

Polyrhachis is one of the largest and most diverse ant genera in the old world tropics. These attractive insects are closely related to the cosmopolitan genus Camponotus but are often ornamented with protective spines. Polyrhachis is found in many different habitat types and show a wide variety of nesting behaviors. Species in the subgenus Cyrtomyrma are weaver ants, nesting in folded leaves held together with larval silk. Others nest in the soil, in rotting wood, or arboreally. One Australian species even inhabits intertidal mud flats and can swim.

Notes:

Spotted within a bunch of bananas. These ants are good swimmers! Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOD4iClNiH4

Thanks for the heads-up Yasser! Post updated.
Albert, these are some outstanding photographs and great additions to your collection! In the future, it would be great if you added a link pointing us to where you pulled the species description from. This will help our community access reference information and learn more about the species you've documented. Hope this makes sense! Cheers, Yasser
