Field Notes

Description:

This tree had a diameter over 6'. I'm in the second photo for scale.
A sycamore can grow to massive proportions, typically reaching up to 30 to 40 meters (98 to 130 ft) high and 1.5 to 2 meters (4.9 to 6.6 ft) in diameter when grown in deep soils.

Habitat:

In its native range, it is often found in riparian and wetland areas. The range extends from Iowa to Ontario and Maine in the north, Nebraska in the west, and south to Texas and Florida.

Notes:

I spotted this just off Decew Rd. past Decew Falls. There are a few huge Sycamores in the area.

Pocahontas, "how high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know." Thanks so much for this shot.
No Alice, this was a piece of bark I found on the ground at the base of the tree. Just thought it would make an interesting photo.
I wouldn't doubt it Harsha. We get so much inspiration from nature.
From the fifth picture it looks like the Indian military uniform was inspired from sycamore. :)
