Thanks SatyenMehta ans Ashish I spotted this in a thorny bush forest, The average temperature here during summer (March to June) ranges from 23 to 36° Celsius and 18 to 30°C during the rest of the year . This Shrike size-length around 15 cm, I conclude this name by its size and habitat...
Satyen and Arun I felt Bay-backed Shrike is smaller bird than other Shrikes... If this is not matching..? http://www.flickr.com/photos/lipkee/3308381367/ http://burung-bird.blogspot.com/2011/03/berbagi-info-seputar-burung-kicauan.html
Bay backed shrikes are known to like thorny plants where Arun has spotted it.
Ashish what you saw is Lanius schach tricolor and not Lanius schach (race) erythronotus.

Lovely spotting Arun and perfectly Id'ed.
Maybe, but what I showed you is no Juvenile.
Unfortunately this site has only juvenile bird image... http://orientalbirdimages.org/photographers.php?action=birder&Birder_ID=102
Ashish if you see the first pic. The mask is raised on the front, in between the eyes. Clear indication of Lanius Vittatus. Lanius schach (race) erythronotus does not have the mask raised. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spiritless/2130628746/
May you confirm with book, I feel second picture look better as Lanius schach (race) erythronotus
Ashish, the book that I have Birds of the Indian Subcontinent by ManakadaN, Daniel & Bhopale shows the race tricolor with black head clearly. Plate 72.
Plate No. 60.. shows wings of Bay-backed not such black.. and More Gray coloured head...shorter tail.
Arun, Lanius schach tricolor has a black head extending from the eye mask to the whole crown and nape. So, this is not L.S. Tricolor. I am confused between Rufous-backed Shrike (Lanius schach) and Bay-backed Shrike (Lanius vittatus), both seem to be same. Will need some work.
Its match from tail to Head as Lanius schach (race) tricolor Check Krys Kazmierczak's book.. Edition 2009. Birds of India (by Om Field Guides)
Thanks Ashish .. I just refer about Bay-backed Shrike in wiki and some sites , it matches every thing which it says but realy i have a confusion with Bay-backed Shrike and Long tailed Shrike ... both are very similar in looks..Do u have experinece with this bird or just suggesting the name by reffering net.. pls help me in differing this
Thanks @Liam ....
