Karen, the fox squirrels I have seen all keep a reddish underbelly year round. It's what gives them their distinct name. They are also much larger than the eastern greys. This looks like a typical eastern grey, although it has quite a bit of brown in it's coat, it could simply be a mutated color phase of the Grey squirrel. Only recently have I seen the fox squirrel in her NY, also finding more and more of the eastern Black Squirrels here as well.

It's a recessive color phase, however for some reason it's becoming more and more prominent in this area.
