Description:

Spotted this tiny Furry Ladybird Beetle eating aphids on collard green leaves. It was only about 2mm and was completely black.

Habitat:

Urban veggie garden.

Thank you for the ID martini! Now that I know these are in my garden, I will look for the white furry larvae.
This furry beetle is a ladybird beetle. Possibly Scymnus sp. They are ravenous feeders on aphids and scale bugs and very useful in your garden. http://www.flickr.com/photos/66925960@N08/

Ya, mine is horrible! I've been borrowing a camera with a hugs lens to capture birds. C. californicus is a total guess based solely on the images, not your description. Definitely investigate.
Thanks CIndy--it does look the same as Cybocephalus californicus. I will do some more investigating. I thought it was eating an aphid in the third photo, but could be mistaken. My camera zoom is not too great.
I want to say it's a Sap-feeding Beetle (Cybocephalus californicus) but I don't know why it would be on collard greens.
