Looks similar to my spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6909297 Do you know what type of tree your fungi is on? Mine was a dead oak.
Wow I don't think I got that close a look myself. Great tips though. I will pay better attention when I see it again. Maybe it was damaged but it looked extremely dry.
it should be a fungus. with a closer picture could it maybe somewhat identified.Just from the shape of the expected cap, i want you take a look to compare your spotting (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7516048) or will you discribe them more: had they gills or pores, slimy/dry or leather cap. some pattern or colorations. have they smelled. ??
