Field Notes

Description:

They have vase-shaped fruiting bodies with gray to black upper surfaces. The ones in my spotting were mostly brown, but I had the identification confirmed on the mushroom observer website. Sizes ranged from 1-2" tall.

Habitat:

Growing in the middle of a swampy, shady, overgrown hiking trail at Sharon Audubon.

Thanks Greg for your help! I added 2 more pictures if mushrooms that were growing just a foot or two away, I'm guessing they are the same? Also, do you know if Craterellus cornucopioides is the same as Craterellus fallax? I had this spotting posted on mushroomobserver, and they identified these as Craterellus fallax...But, that looks the same as Craterellus cornucopioides. So, now I'm unsure of the difference between the two, and which one I spotted.
