Field Notes

Description:

The Coleto (Sarcops calvus) is a starling species (family Sturnidae) in the monotypic genus Sarcops. It is ENDEMIC to the Philippines. so its only here in the Philippines. (Pictures were courtesy of Sir Alrey Eya).

Habitat:

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Notes:

Once thought to be a bald bird because of it's red covering around its head. Usually trained and a good pet too that's why it's number is decreasing due to irresponsible hunting and trade. Pictures were courtesy of Sir Alrey Eya, our bird expert.
