I have a friend who goes for both of those, but honestly, I can't remember the time of year he goes out. I was thinking a touch later for matsutake. Everything is late this year. Friend of mine who collects commercially said they chanterelles are finally up to commercial quantities. I know we're just now getting quantities that match to last August
After all the heavy rain we've gotten this week farther north, then mild temperatures, maybe there will be more of a variety coming up. Talked to a Michigan man in Coos Bay last week who comes every year looking for edulis and matsutake & he'd found very little of either one this year. So far.
They've been up for awhile, but really sporadic this year. I'm thinking hedgehogs may come early, depending on what the rest of this month looks like
Ho, so they're up! I'll go out and look now. Saw only chanterelles and lobster mushrooms so far.
