Field Notes

Description:

This, along with other spiders (babies?) were found in a nook between a fence rail and post. The young northern black widow is the ID I found on the net. The nest was spotted in the afternoon of a hot July day. I removed it with a stick because of possible danger to horses who graze along the fence-line. Within the web/ nest I found the spiders.

Habitat:

Found on the western side of fence. Receives late afternoon shade. Located on a horse farm in Boone county, Kentucky.
