Karen, I went out and checked the wild huckleberries we have growing in our hedgerow, and the leaves are exact, as are the berry cluster positions. I am fairly certain that it's a huckleberry. (we have approx 30 of these in our hedgerow and the birds love them)! they are a great addition to any habitat you are creating.
I think you are right Brandon! And huckleberries sounds like something I need to add to my hedgerow for the birds!
It looks like it could be in the huckleberry family. Although I am not 100% on that.
Could it be a wild blueberry bush?
I'm not sure either, but I"m pretty sure it isn't mahonia
This doesn't look like a mahonia which has thick leathery leaves with spikes (like large holly leaves) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon-grape I'm not exactly sure what it is though!
