Field Notes

Description:

G. multiplicata belongs to the little known order of caecilians. Caecilians are limbless burrowing amphibians. G. multiplicata is a purple-ish species with white eye spots and tentacles beneath these spots.

Habitat:

Like most caecilians, G. multiplicata are fossorial. They are found in Central America; this individual was found in a low-land swamp tropical forest. They are also known to be found in subtropical or tropical montane forests, pastures, and plantations.

Notes:

Unfortunately this individual was found freshly dead on top of leaf litter. It had been freshly cut in half but something.
