Field Notes

Description:

I believe this is a longhorn beetle. 6.5cm long. Each antenna is 6+ cm long as well. Large spines at base of head. Very large mandibles. Secondary wings appear to be brownish. Body is grey to black with light tan markings.

Habitat:

I have only seen these twice. Once the specimen photographed which was found dead outside my house and a live one (when I didn't have a camera) crawling on a bush at another house.

Notes:

When I saw the live one it hissed and brandished it mandible at me and the kids I was with.
