Field Notes

Description:

The Sanderling is a small sandpiper. It runs up and down the beach probing for food. Note that it is in the surf zone so it spends quite a bit of time running in and out (or back and forth) with each incoming wave. The sanderling has black legs and feet and a black bill. By the time they reach this area, they have faded from their more colorful plumage.

Habitat:

Coastal. Spotted on the gulf coast FL, USA.
