Thanks IgCostaNut!! This little guy was easy to catch because he was in my house and on a curtain. The other plume moth I have was caught in a net. it was gorgeous.
They do fly and I have seen them come in for landings. I have tried shooting some with the macro but they are very difficult. Even though they are motionless at rest they seem to have only 1mm of actual focal view. I have spotted two distinct species here, a bluish and whitish. I never saw the blue one again but I see the white species each night when I shoot around this street light in front of my house. The white measure no wider than 1cm and the blue was a bit larger. This photo is spectacular!!!!!!! Congratulations!
They do have a very unique shape. I first learned about them Noah as well. Then I starting seeing a few of them where I live. I can assure you they do fly. This is a good photo too Cynthia, they are hard to photograph and very hard to ID to the species level.
I saw one for the first time this summer. They are a really cool group of moths but I cant say I watched it fly!
I just had no idea of this moth. Amazing shape, I wonder how it flies - or even if it flies at all!!!!
