Northern Dwarf Tree Frog
Litoria bicolor
-16.8, 125.84
Field Notes
Description:
This adorable little frog is approximately 2.5cm (1 inch) long. It has a medium brown stripe from the front/middle of the eye extending around the nose slightly thinner (over the nostrils) to the other side, with a gold stripe above it which also extends over the eye about halfway. Behind the eye is a thicker brown stripe. It is a beautiful green from the nose extending down over the top of the head to the rear which also covers the outside and top of the back legs. It looks to be a translucent pearl kind of colour underneath which includes the front legs and the bottom of the back legs.
Habitat:
Sitting on a plant with spiky leaves on the bank of the waterhole at Galvan's Gorge.
Notes:
Every time I have been to Galvan's Gorge I have spied these little frogs on the spiky leafed plant. Certainly makes it fun trying to get a photo! "The name bicolor means 'two colours' and refers to the sharp contrast between the green back and white belly." (http://museum.wa.gov.au/explore/frogwatch/frogs/northern-dwarf-tree-frog )
