Conocida comúnmente como pastora, noche buena, flor de pascua o poinsetia en EEUU, es una planta de la familia Euphorbiaceae, nativa de México y América Central. Es frecuentemente utilizada en jardinería como arbusto, pero principalmente en floricultura como planta de interior en Navidad.

It is native to Mexico and Central America and is a member of the spurge family. While having a bitter and irritating sap, the plant is only mildly toxic but has a bad reputation because of an popular 1919 urban legend stating a young girl died after eating a small leaf.
