Field Notes

Description:

Sparrow-sized. Gun-metal blue above white below. A black mask covers the eyes and face.

Habitat:

Lakeshores, marshes, but I've seen them nesting in uplands grasslands in bluebird nest boxes.

Notes:

One of my favorite birds. Fast, darting flight, sharp corners characterize their flight as they charge after flying insects.
