Field Notes

Description:

Small white flower( pedals only less than 1 inch in diameter). The whole plant looked to be 5 inches tall with no pedals.

Habitat:

I found this flower growing in the middle of a field, another bloom was about ten yards away.

My first thought was Colchicum autumnale. Could be an autumn flowering Crocus but sounds a little big. You could tell easily in the spring as Crocus ahve fine grass like leaves & Colchicum have broader and larger strap shaped leaves. The funny thing is I can't see much in the way of stamens in your shots that I would expect to see very obviously for both the above.....so still not sure...
