Field Notes

Description:

Common, easily recognised butterfly found throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Wings are black and dark brown with reddish orange bands and white spots. It is known for being one of the last butterflies to be seen before winter settles in, and is often seen on very sunny autumn/winter days (like the ones we had in the UK this weekend).

Habitat:

Pretty much anywhere, very versatile

Notes:

Found many of these fluttering around the creeping plants in the gardens at Woodhall Manor, Suffolk.
