Gilma, please, update the scientific genus of Dysonia sp., thanks.
OK, I got the confirmation of Dysoniini and the genus is Dysonia sp.. Maybe some of the katydid cracks could get a little bit closer.
Thank you so much bayucca, for all the information, I will edit as you said. This Katydid was white and black and I thought that perhaps it was another kind... : o
Tettigoniidae, Phaneropterinae, Dysoniini. Now it is getting tricky. You already have one IDed as Machima sp. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/14145155 I am pretty sure it is the same one as this you posted now. But is this the right ID? I would say yes, since the similarity is extraordinary indeed and Piotr who IDed the one from WTB is probably one of the most recognized katydid experts on the globe, so if he call that one as Machima sp., then I believe him, although there is, as he also stated, not much or even "no" information and pictures of other Machima sp. on the web. There are some more Machima sp., but these are mostly found in South America, which does not mean anything for Costa Rica. Not reported does not mean not found or not existing. http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1138349 http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1138323 http://www.whatsthatbug.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/katydid_moss_peru_peter.jpg However: Bold shows some 34 reports of a Dysonia sp., which are unfortunately only museum specimens, so comparison might be tricky. http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxid=476027I am also missing the small black spots on the head shield on Dysonia sp. But why are they so many reports of Dysonia sp. found in Costa Rica, but no natural/native pictures of it? I don't know and cannot judge these informations properly to be 100% sure about the genus name. And Piotr called the other one also only "possible Machima sp." I think with Dysoniini cf. Machima sp. as an ID suggestion we might be on the safe side and maybe in the future we will have more information about this one. I try to contact some experts from Costa Rica...
